is cursive still a thing? Is it still taught in school? Sometimes I hear that places have stopped doing this. I guess I just wonder if it’s going to go away as far as everyday use. Yes I am 100 years old.

I had to google it; I’m from the UK and we call it joined up writing.

I was born in 1990 and we had to learn it in school. In fact, I was so bad at it and so good at Literacy that they took me out of Literacy class (I say took me out of, I was in the same room doing different work) and made me do extra Handwriting.

Oh, yeah, and the class was just called Handwriting. I don’t use it now, I write seperate letters, except when I rush and all the letters fall into one squiggle.

So that’s all handwriting lessons did for me - made my handwriting worse when I rush. I hated those fucking extra lessons.

I was born in 1991 in the UK & I learned cursive in school.  Originally we had videos for it, guide sheets & Handwriting lessons (in Infant School) & then it was just something that was checked when handing in work in Junior School.  If we didn’t write joined up then we’d have to start our work from scratch, & we had to use pencil until we’d proven that our pen-holding & handwriting were good enough to ‘deserve’ a pen.  I was always told ‘when you get into Senior School you can write however you like’, so I stopped writing joined up as a rebellion for a couple of years.  This is my handwriting these days, & I join it up, after all of those years hating doing so…
